Manufacturing a Metal Tree Pit Grille

We manufactured a metal tree pit grille from 5 mm thick steel for installation in a sidewalk. The structure covers the area around the tree and gives the surrounding pavement a clean and finished appearance.

The grille was produced based on measurements taken at the specific installation site. Similar structures can be manufactured for tree pits of virtually any size and shape.

Structure

The visible upper section of the grille is made from 5 mm thick sheet steel and consists of two separate halves.

The two-part design is particularly useful for future maintenance. When necessary, each half can be removed separately without special tools, providing access to the tree, soil or internal area of the tree pit, and then reinstalled after the work is completed.

An additional load-bearing steel frame was manufactured beneath the cover, increasing the overall strength of the structure and preventing the grille from bending under load.

Custom Design and Laser Cutting

All main sheet metal components were produced using CNC laser cutting.

For this particular project, the surface pattern was laser-cut according to a design specified by the municipality. CNC laser cutting makes it possible to manufacture the grille not only with standard patterns, but also with virtually any custom design.

Metal tree pit grilles can be manufactured:

• in different geometric shapes;

• with custom patterns and decorative cut-outs;

• according to a design provided by the customer;

• with an integrated company name or logo.

This means that a tree pit grille can serve not only a practical purpose, but also a decorative or branding function.

Manufacturing Process

The project included:

• on-site measurements;

• manufacturing the structure according to the actual dimensions;

• CNC laser cutting of 5 mm steel sheets;

• assembly and welding of the components;

• surface painting;

• installation of the finished structure.

The entire process, from measurements to final installation, was carried out with consideration for the specific shape and dimensions of the tree pit as well as the installation conditions.

Result

The result was a strong, easy-to-service metal tree pit grille designed to match the surrounding urban environment.
